Your Guide To: Natural Deodorants

No matter your lifestyle or gender, pretty much most of us rely on deodorant as part of our daily routine, yet we often don't give them as much consideration as we would other skincare products.

If you've yet to make the switch, we've given a breakdown of the different types of deodorants, and why going natural is always best.

Antiperspirants vs. Deodorants

Simply put, antiperspirants work by blocking your body's glands so that you stop producing sweat altogether, whereas deodorants work by either masking body odour, or by turning your under-arm skin acidic to reduce the number of bacteria.

A big concern with antiperspirants that has recently gained more media attention is the amount of aluminium that they often contain in order to block the sweat pores. Some people believe that this can be linked to a number of health problems, including Alzheimer's and breast cancer (although don't panic, there still needs to be a lot more research into this).

Not to mention that you're supposed to sweat, given that it's the body's natural way of regulating temperature as well as releasing toxins, so it's probably still best to let your body function like this properly.

Why go natural?

There's long been a misconception that natural often means less effective, but as we have become more mindful of what we put into our bodies and how we can minimize our impact on the environment, more and more people are discovering all the benefits of going natural (and that the natural stuff does in fact work very well!).

While the full effects of using chemical deodorants are still relatively unknown, it definitely can't hurt to make the switch and go natural. As well as being the safer choice for your health, natural deodorants are much more sensitive and reduce skin irritation – not drying it out, unlike with alcohol-based products you can pick up in supermarkets. What's more, they won't leave those pesky yellow stains on any of your white t-shirts. To us, it sounds like a no-brainer!
